Regulations on the Completion of the Master’s Thesis
The Master’s Thesis is a mandatory and integral requirement for the completion of the Master’s Program (M.Sc.) in Human Performance. Through this process, students are expected to conduct original research and apply the scientific knowledge they have acquired throughout their studies.
📌 Assignment of Advisor & Supervisor
📌 Each master’s student is assigned an Academic Advisor, who is a faculty member and provides guidance on:
✅ Selection of specialization courses.
✅ Choosing a thesis supervisor.
✅ Defining and structuring the student’s research pathway.
📌 The Thesis Supervisor must be a faculty member of the School of Physical Education and Sport Science (TEFAA) in Thessaloniki. The three-member examination committee may also include members of E.E.P. (Special Educational Staff) or E.D.I.P. (Laboratory Teaching Staff), as well as Ph.D. holders from other universities or research centers.
📌 Replacing a supervisor or a committee member is possible only in exceptional cases, with the approval of the Coordinating Committee (C.C.).
📌 If a student is unable to find a supervisor, they must submit a formal request to the M.Sc. Secretariat for the appointment of a supervisor and examination committee.
📌 Master’s Thesis Completion
📌 The Master’s Thesis must be experimental and must include:
✅ An initial application to the Secretariat with the proposed title, supervisor, and a brief summary.
✅ The thesis must comply with the M.Sc. formatting guidelines (length, language, font, timeline, etc.).
📌 Important Requirements:
- The student must have successfully completed all coursework before defending the thesis.
- The thesis defense takes place before the three-member committee, on a date set by the C.C..
📌 Approval & Defense Process
📌 Approval by the Three-Member Committee
- Before the defense, the committee must sign an approval form (provided by the Secretariat).
- If a committee member disagrees, they must submit a written objection within 15 days. The final decision is made by the Coordinating Committee.
📌 Thesis Defense
- The student has 20 minutes to present their thesis.
- A discussion with the committee follows, lasting up to 45 minutes.
- The committee deliberates and decides on the approval of the thesis.
- The final grade is publicly announced to the candidate.
📌 What Happens in Case of Disagreement?
- If one member disagrees, they submit an appeal.
- If two members disagree, the student must repeat the defense in the following semester, provided they have not exceeded the maximum study duration.
📌 Mandatory Online Submission of the Thesis
📌 Upon successful approval, the thesis must:
✅ Be uploaded to the official M.Sc. website.
✅ Be archived in the Central Library of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH).
