Master’s Thesis

Designation of master’s thesis adviser and supervisor

For each postgraduate student, a faculty member is designated by the CO as a study advisor for academic matters. The advisor's primary role is to guide the graduate student in matters related to the studies, the selection of direction courses, the selection of a supervisor for the master’s thesis, and the possibilities offered by the program.

Elaboration of a master’s thesis

The master’s thesis is obligatorily experimental. At the beginning, the postgraduate student submits an application to the “Human Performance” Secretariat, including the proposed title, the proposed supervisor and the summary of the proposed thesis.

Only a faculty member of the Department of Physical Education can be appointed as supervising professor for the thesis. EEP & EDIP members can also participate in the three-member committee.

The members of the committee must have the same or related scientific specialty as the scientific subject of the postgraduate program “Human Performance”. Teaching staff with a PhD from the same or other Universities and research centers can be members of the three-member committee.
In exceptional cases, if there is an objective weakness or an important reason, it is possible to replace the supervisor or a member of the three-member committee after a decision of the CO.

In case that a postgraduate student does not find a supervisor, he/she submits a written application to the postgraduate program Secretariat addressed to the CO for the appointment of a supervisor and a three-member examination committee.

After preparing the thesis, the postgraduate student presents it before the three-member committee on a date and place determined by the CO.

The extent, the writing language, the font, the way of writing, the number of copies of the postgraduate diploma thesis to be submitted and anything else related to its structure, as well as the timetable for its corrections, are determined in the relevant Master Studies Regulations.

Consent of the three-member advisory-examination committee

The three-member advisory-examination committee gives its consent for the presentation of the postgraduate diploma thesis, through a form (provided by the Secretariat), which, once completed, is submitted to the Secretariat. The form must be signed by all committee members. In case of disagreement of a member, he/she should, within an exclusive period of 15 days, submit his/her objections in writing, and the final decision is taken by the CO.

Presentation of a master’s thesis

In order for the student to have the right to present the thesis, all courses must be passed.

The presentation of the master's thesis is done in the presence of all three members of the advisory-examination committee. The candidate develops, for approximately 20 minutes, his/her master's thesis and then answers the questions and comments of the committee members. The whole process should be completed within 45 minutes. The committee then departs, deliberates and formulates its final judgment, which takes into account the originality of the content of the master's thesis, its substantial contribution to the advancement of science and the quality of its presentation. The committee's decision is publicly announced to the candidate. The consent of all three members of the committee is required for the approval of the postgraduate thesis. In case of disagreement of a member, he must submit his objections in writing within an exclusive period of 15 days. In case of disagreement between two members, the candidate is obliged to repeat the procedure at the end of the next semester of studies, as long as he/she has not exceeded the maximum prescribed period of study.

The master’s thesis, once approved by the examination committee, is posted on the postgraduate program’s website and in the central library of AUTH.
